1. Rationale
An inquiry concerning the heat treated thickness for forgings depending on the selected grade as listed in 6.1.6.2 has indicated that the listed thickness values might be taken to be mandatory maximum values, and that the term generally used in 6.1.6.2 is inappropriate. The proposed ballot action is to move the content of 6.1.6.2 to a non mandatory appendix to the standard because the stated limits in 6.1.6.1 could be inaccurate based on published data, particularly if some of the heat treatment procedures included in the standard are used.
