1. Scope
The guide covers general information for selecting methods for evaluating the heating and cooling performance of liquids used to transfer heat where forced convection is the primary mode of heat transfer. Further, methods of comparison are presented to effectively and easily distinguish performance characteristics of the heat transfer fluids.
The reporting of heat transfer coefficients in many cases is unclear and the description of how these measurements were obtained is generally lacking (information about the test apparatus is vague or missing). Users include public and facility designers (those wanting specific information about heat transfer fluid performance), suppliers of specialty fluids (to encourage being specific about fluid performance), and those wanting a reliable method for highlighting specific performance characteristics of the fluids.
