1. Rationale

The manner of strike off affects the accuracy of this test method and should be done as rapidly as possible to prevent consolidation of material in the cylindrical measure (Section 10.2). A strike off guide has been shown to improve the accuracy and consistency of test results, and members present at the June 2011 committee meeting recommended that a strike off guide be mandatory for this test procedure.
