ASTM WK35432

(What is a Work Item? / How to Input to a Work Item)

Work Item: ASTM WK35432 - Revision of D942 - 02(2007) Standard Test Method for Oxidation Stability of Lubricating Greases by the Oxygen Pressure Vessel Method

Active Standard: D942 - 02(2007)

Developed by Subcommittee: D02.09.0E | Committee D02 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Rationale

Based on the minutes of the June 2011 meeting: Overall, the standard (including the Scope) needs to be reviewed for compliance with ASTM requirements for use of S.I. units. Throughout the text, references to the Institute of Petroleum need to be changed to the Energy Institute. The equipment diagram (Annex Fig A.1.1) needs extensive updating and revision: S.I. units need to be included. The use of lead or PTFE gaskets is shown; the option for lead needs to be removed. The only pressure gage option shown in the diagram reads in psi. Gages that read in kPa are also available. Digital pressure gages (for use with data loggers) are also suitable. Only a flanged and soldered option is shown for the T-connector, between the pressure vessel, oxygen feed and pressure gage. Threaded connectors are now available. The BS 970 standard may have been superseded by an EU or ISO standard, and remove the option of using a lead gasket in the equipment (Annex A.1.1). Include correct divisions for gages marked in kPa (Annex A.1.2).
