    1. Rationale

    As presently worded, ASTM F1717 does not require that slippage of polyaxial pedicle screw heads during fatigue testing be reported. The proposed revision requires that, for polyaxial screw constructs that achieve runout without breakage of components, a quantitative measure of any slippage or deformation (based on changes in center-to-center hinge pin distance) and an explanation of the causal mechanism should be reported.
