Work Item: ASTM WK35208 - New Test Methods for Stress-Strain and Creep Testing for Overhead Electrical Conductors

Developed by Subcommittee: B01.02 | Committee B01 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

To develop standard test methods for the determination of the elastic and short-term creep characteristics SStress-Strain)and the determination of the long-term creep characteristics of conductors for overhead (Creep) Electrical Conductors. To model the mechanical characteristics of overhead electrical conductors stress-strain and creep characteristics must be determined. These characteristics are then used by electric power utilities to determine the sag and clearance of overhead electric transmission and distribution lines. Clearance requirements are mandated by FERC.

Keywords

aluminum conductor; stranded aluminum conductors; electrical conductor; stress; strain; creep

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
