1. Scope
1.1 This specification covers the chemical, mechanical, and dimensional requirements for through-hardened steel washers for use with fasteners having nominal sizes of 1/2 through 4 in. (1.3 through 10 cm). These washers are intended for use on pressure-containing flanges with bolts or studs and nuts. These washers are suitable for use with fasteners covered in ASTM A193 and A194. 1.2 The washers are designated by type denoting the material. Only one style is specified. 1.2.1 The types of washers covered are: 1.2.1.1 Type 1 - Carbon steel. 1.2.1.2 Type 2 - Alloy steel. 1.2.1.3 Type 3 - Martensitic steel. 1.2.1.4 Type 4 - Precipitation-hardening steel. 1.2.2 The style of washers covered is: 1.2.2.1 Circular - Circular washers in nominal sizes 1/2 through 4 in. (1.3 through 10 cm). 1.3 Terms used in this specification are defined in Terminology F1789 unless otherwise defined herein.
This standard was requested by the ASME Subcommittee on Flange Joint Assembly. It is intended to take the place of Appendix M in ASME PCC-1 for washer procurement.
