1. Rationale
This proposed revision changes gypsum sheathing to language that is more inclusive of the other gypsum panel products typically used as exterior building sheathing. This change is intended to cover fiber reinforced gypsum panel products (FRGP) as well as glass-mat gypsum substrate. This also includes a change to the title of the standard. To prevent the use of interior grade gypsum panel products, the scope is revised to specifically cover exterior gypsum panel products that are specifically designed for use as a substrate for exterior wall cladding. New sections are added to cover the one year allowable exposure time for FRGP and glass mat gypsum substrate. Footnote 1 to Table 1 and a new 8.2.5.1 were added prohibit the use of staples for applying FRGP and glass mat gypsum substrate. This revision uses the term water-resistive barrier in the new sections.
