1. Rationale

1. To change the scope to allow the use of a splitting sieve smaller than the 4.75-mm (#4)and to allow the use of other grain size limits when using the test method for special purposes. 2. To add a mechanical device for agitation as an optional piece of equipment for the alternative method of deairing the soil-water mixture in the pycnometer.
