1. Rationale
I was in charge of reviewing this Standard for revision and would like to make the following deletion from the Standard due to it not adding value in the validity of the test. The section that needs to be removed is as follows: 7.3.1 Samples for which the minimum temperature reading of 218C (425F) was not attained shall not be tested for float. This follows section 7.s for emulsified asphalt residues. While D6997 will achieve temperatures that exceed those listed as a minimum (425F), many agencies use lower temperature modifications to the distllation procedure D6997 for polymer modified emulsified asphalts. This causes confusion with this section when it is utilized in conjunction with this Standard. The removal of this section will clarify the document and will not deter from the integrity of the test. I appreciate your attention to this revision.
