1.1 This guide establishes the minimum training standard for a helicopter search and rescue technician with focus on the general, field and search and rescue specific knowledge and skills needed to function within a helicopter in support of a land search and rescue operation. 1.2 This guide is focused on land operations including flooding events. This guide will not discuss events requiring search and rescue over water including but not limited to extended searches off-shore or over fixed bodies of water. 1.3 This guide is focused on persons functioning in helicopters only; no fixed-winged operations will be discussed. 1.4 General, field and search and rescue specific knowledge and skills related to land search and rescue are found in the referenced ASTM documents. The training discussed in this guide will supplement and enhance existing search and rescue training an individual has. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
