1. Rationale
Previous versions of the sampling standards described the various sampling methods and apparatus, primarily for crude oils and semi-solids and solids, and provided little application guidance to the user. This version is divided into parts. The General section, section 8.1.1 will discuss manual sampling equipment and processes along with the sampling procedures and sample handling. The General Section of ASTM D4057/API MPMS Chapter 8.1.1 for Manual Sampling is the reference document which will include all the sampling equipment, their process and use, sampling procedures and their descriptions, sampling containers and all the appropriate references and terminology for all parts of the practice.
