ASTM WK33781

(What is a Work Item? / How to Input to a Work Item)

Work Item: ASTM WK33781 - Revision of F1868 - 09 Standard Test Method for Thermal and Evaporative Resistance of Clothing Materials Using a Sweating Hot Plate

Active Standard: F1868 - 12

Developed by Subcommittee: F23.60 | Committee F23 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Rationale

ASTM F1868-09 references a calibration fabric for use in Part C of the standard. The original supply of this fabric was included in a round-robin study to develop linear regressions for Rcf and Ref which formed the basis for the currently published slope and 4-layer measurements in the standard. This bolt of calibration fabric has since been fully consumed, and replaced with a new supply of like material from the same manufacturer. A one-time procedure has been proposed to pre-age this new fabric before initial use, and several labs have indicated willingness to evaluate this procedure and test the new material per the Part C protocol to confirm the new material is within acceptable limits. The results of this Work Item will be a revision to ASTM F1868 to incorporate the pre-aging procedure, and to generate a report summarizing the data from participating labs.
