1. Scope
1.1.1 This guide establishes the minimum training standard for a Strike Team Leader/Task Force Leader as related to search and rescue specific knowledge and skills. 1.1.2 Specifically, a Strike Team Leader/Task Force Leader will be able initiate position activities, communicate, influence, guide, and direct assigned personnel on a timely basis to accomplish objectives and desired outcomes in a rapidly changing, high-risk environment. 1.1.3 A Task Force Leader (TFLD) must have the capability and experience for managing, coordinating, and directing the actions of fire crews/companies at a wide variety of emergency situations. This includes maintaining all required records, and ensuring the logistical needs of all personnel are met during the entire activation of the strike team/task force. 1.1.4 Further training may be required depending on the authority having jurisdictions (AHJ) regulations or policies. 1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
This guide will be an all incident resource for wildland and structural firefighters who wish to train as Land Search and Rescue Strike Team Leader/Task Force Leader. It may also be used as a training resource for authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs)
