    1. Scope

    1.1 This practice describes procedures used to determine equivalence or unsurpassed with applications to sensory evaluation. Procedures are presented for comparing two products. 1.2 Appropriate types of data for supporting equivalence and unsurpassed statements will be discussed. 1.3 This practice discusses how appropriate bounds can be established for equivalent performance in sensory applications. 1.4 This practice discusses how appropriate one-sided bounds can be established for unsurpassed performance in sensory applications. 1.5 The emphasis of this practice is on statistical approaches for determining equivalence and unsurpassed for sensory applications, and the interpretation of results.
