The subcommittee has become aware there is some confusion regarding the wording within Section 8.2 Permissible Variations in Dimensions regarding the application of the manufactures tolerance between the gasket bearing surfaces not exceeding 10% of the uncompressed gasket thickness. It appears that the potential exist for a misinterpretation of the intent of the standard. All ASTM standards are to be self-evident and unvarying to all that read them. Consequently, this task group is to review the referenced standard section to determine if this provision should in fact be revised and if so, provide suggested new wording for subcommittee review and balloting. Additionally part of this task groups responsibility will be to review other C13 standards (C1677, C1628, etc.) which also have included this or similar criteria for correlation. From 2014 meeting an additional scope activity was to review the plant performance test requirements to include an off-centered position for the tested joint for applications which will be horizontal.Note: this new task will proceed under a new work item.
