Work Item: ASTM WK32823 - New Practice for In vitro production of Clostridium difficile spores

Developed by Subcommittee: E35.15 | Committee E35 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

1.1 This practice is designed to propagate spores of Clostridium difficile using a broth culture method. 1.2 It is the responsibility of the of the user of this method to determine whether Good Laboratory Practices are required and follow when appropriate. 1.3 This practice should be performed only by those trained in microbiological techniques. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Currently there are no approved standard guides or practices for producing Clostridium difficile spore crops for use in laboratory testing. This proposed standard would be used by microbiology laboratories to propagate spore crops of C. difficile for use in a variety of efficacy tests.
