1. Rationale
For anti-wear grades covered by this standard, D7043 (Standard Test Method for Indicating Wear Characteristics of Petroleum and Non-Petroleum Hydraulic Fluids in a Constant Volume Vane Pump) is currently specified for pump wear characteristics, but with no performance limits. At the December 2010 D02.N.10 meeting a proposal was made to include limits for this parameter (1 run 50 mg combined vane and ring wear each for ISO 32, 46 and 68 grades) to provide users with guidance for anti-wear performance regarded as acceptable in current equipment.
