1. Scope
This test method covers determining the activity and selectivity of either equilibrium or laboratory deactivated fluid cracking catalysts (FCC). The activity is evaluated on the basis of mass percent conversion of gas oil feed in a fluidized bed reactor. The primary yield of importance is the coke yield, defined as the mass of carbon laid down on the catalyst, also expressed as a percent of the gas oil feed.
The published tests for catalyst activity or reactivity are based on fixed bed reactors. Over time the industry standard for activity testing of FCC has gone to fluidized bed testing, in particular in an ACE reactor system, designed and sold by Kayser Technologies, Inc.
