1. Rationale
Rationale For the proposed Changes: A contradiction exists between paragraph 8.2.1 and paragraph 16.2 of the standard on the subject of ductility depending on the interpretation. Section 8.2.1 is somewhat vague as to what visible signs of fracture means while SAE J78 is very clear, so it is recommended to define fracture as described in SAE J78. Also, a reference seems to be in error in paragraph 8.2.2 of the standard as it references SAE J933. A review of SAE J933 shows no discussion of ductility. Therefore, clarification and correction is suggested. It is recommended that we simply reference SAE J78 for the test requirement, but simply make clear that it be completed at 10-degrees instead of 5-degrees.
