1. Rationale
Under section 6.1 of the method, the apparatus is available as a manufactured unit or can be constructed from individual components. However, all of the data generated and used to calculate the Precision and Bias were from manufactured units. Nowhere within this standard are any requirements for the size, material or volume capacities for the tubing within the instrument. As a method based primarily on pressure, this information is critical to the performance and calculations herein. The removal of this clause will be balloted. This clause has already been removed from the equivalent Energy Institute test Method IP 387. The removal of this clause will not stop users from making their own apparatus (precision could be affected)but the clause will no longer encourage self manufacture.
