1. Rationale
ASTM D629/D276 is currently dormant however the information contained within it may be of value to industry or other interested parties. Qualitative and Quantitative fiber identification is currently under the active auspices of AATCCC Research Committee RA24 and Test Methods 20 and 20A. Since precision and bias development is also active under AATCCC Research Committee RA24 it is decided unanimously by AATCC and ASTM that new method development in this area will be conducted on an ongoing basis through AATCC. Per our recent discussion and work completed at ASTM San Antonio, below is the agreed upon text block for inclusion in the introduction to ASTM D629 and D276 rendering them dormant, with activity directed to AATCC RA24 and TMs 20 and 20A. I am copying Norma Keyes, the other task group member involved in crafting the text. This text avoids duplication of work and eliminates confusion.
