1. Scope
This document describes a method for determining the leakage rate of a vessel subject to a negative pressure difference. The technique is based upon evaluation of the change of mass within the test object based on a pressure rate-of-rise measurement. The pressure rate of rise measurement uses the ideal gas equation of state and the measured pressures, temperatures, and time to determine the mass increase in the vessel. This method does not apply to deformable vessels.
Pressure rate of rise methods are used throughout many industries but no standard exists to specify the test methods to be used. This results in confusion in amoung users as well as manufacturer's of these test systems.
