1. Rationale
E1111 does not conform to the ASTM guidelines for units. This revision is to bring E1111 into compliance by converting the standard to an inch-pound standard. To date, this standard is only used in North America and because the measurement positions extend to 14 feet from the source, the measurements in round metric units would be significantly different than the currently used positions which are on 1 foot increments. The task group also felt the single number rating which has a component to specify the height of the partition used in the test, should also be converted to inches, so the AC(1.5) will become AC(60 in). The task group felt the position of survey paths for ceiling specimens should not be close to the side walls. This was added in section 10.2.6. There exists a requirement for the distance of the standard barrier used in testing ceilings from the end walls of the test room. There does not exist any requirements for the location of furniture panels used as acoustical barriers or the standard barrier used in testing walls and furniture for the attenuation of reflected sound. Requirements were added in sections 6.4.3.4 and 9.2.3. The figures have been redrawn since they have become almost unreadable over the last several revisions. The task group wanted a plan view drawing of the ceiling configuration. This was added as a new figure 2 and the other figures have been renumbered. This renumbering has been applied to sections being revised for other reasons. The editor will apply the renumbering to the rest of the references. If the new figures do not show up well on the ballot, I will send the drawings in jpg format upon request.
