Work Item: ASTM WK31402 - Revision of F770 - 06a Standard Practice for Ownership and Operation of Amusement Rides and Devices

Active Standard: F770 - 11

Developed by Subcommittee: F24.40 | Committee F24 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Rationale

SUBJECT:Revision of F-770 Section 8. Classification of Injuries and Illnesses RATIONALE: A review of the current Classification of Injuries and Illnesses, section 8 in the Standard Practice for Ownership and Operation of Amusement Rides and Devices, determined the recommendations were outdated and in need of revision. The current recommendations for record keeping and reporting of guest/patron injuries and illnesses are more detailed than the Federal O.S.H.A. recording and reporting requirements for those employed by the facility. The original standard was introduced to F-24 to assist owners/operators in comparing incidents and incident rates within the industry to identify possible trends with regard to specific incidents. The goal was to establish a common basis for the comparison of incidents which more clearly established the separation between an incident on an amusement ride or device versus an incident which may have occurred in the parking lot of a facility. The following proposed revision is designed to more closely align the ASTM F-24 recommendations for reporting and recordkeeping with those already widely accepted within the industry, specifically the IAAPA Annual Amusement Ride Safety Report classifications of injuries related to Amusement Ride or Device loading/unloading and/or operation.
