1. Scope
This is a specification proposed for use with hydraulic fluids formulated to be environmentally friendly. These type fluids are often formulated using ingredients that provide low environmental persistence, low ecotoxicity, or both. These fluids are often formulated using base fluids and ingredients that give the appearance of poor performance in traditional hydraulic fluid performance tests. This specification will be used to properly provide user guidance when choosing environmentally considerate lubricants for use in hydraulic applications.
Many users and groups, such as the U.S. military, are now beginning to specifiy bio-prefered products or perhaps environmentally considerate products for use in their equipment. It is likely that other US government agencies and other governments are pursuing the same fluid preferences as well. These are exactly the type products that users in a similar situation would use this specification for.
