1.1 This specification covers performance classifications for biodegradable hydraulic fluids with low aquatic toxicity used in the industrial/mobile hydraulic applications. 1.2 In some cases, biodegradable fluids have been found to perform differently than traditional mineral oils, thus separate performance classifications are desirable. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
Many users and groups, such as the U.S. military, are now beginning to specifiy bio-prefered products or perhaps environmentally considerate products, for use in their equipment. It is likely that other U.S. Government agencies and other governments are pursuing the same fluid preferences as well. These are exactly the type products that users in a similar situation would use this specification for.
