1. Rationale

In order to eliminate the confusion between hot finished, not heat-treated and normalized material (as in A106/A106M and A210/A210M) it is desirable to clarify that cooling ferritic steels directly from the hot-finishing temperature, even if that temperature is above the transformation range, is not normalizing. After the discussion at the November 15, 2010, meeting of A01.92, the revised proposal in this item was proposed.
