1. Scope
This guide is intended to provide guidance for wear testing of articulating total disc prostheses. Both lumbar and cervical prostheses are addressed. Wear will be assessed using a weight loss method in a testing medium as defined in the test method.
Currently, there is one standard guide for both articulating and non-articulating standards. As the test methods being considered by the task group for F2423 are becoming more specific to each type of device, it becomes overly complicated to try to keep one standard that attempts to address all types of IVD prostheses.
