1. Scope
This test method covers a procedure to measure the macro-dispersion of fillers in a rubber matrix by quantifying the surface roughness of a freshly cut specimen using an optical microscope in reflection mode.
Optical methods of measuring dispersion of fillers in rubber compounds provide a rapid, objective measure that is practical for routine laboratory testing. Both unvulcanized and vulcanized rubber compounds may be evaluated using this test method.
