1. Scope
This test method which involves XRD is one component of a proposed comprehensive method for the analysis of talc for asbestos It is anticipated that this method will be useful to cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries as a way to qualify talc for use as a raw material. Additional methods involving PLM and XRD analyses will also be proposed as well as a guide which will address how to utilize and combine the proposed XRD, PLM, and TEM components.
This method will be useful to the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries as a way to qualify talc for use as a raw material. The method is needed to enhance existing methods historically used by cosmetic and pharmaceutical trade associations (CTFA/PCPC, USP, etc.). It will also be useful for regulatory agencies to ensure public safety of talc end-users.
