1. Rationale
In an effort to reduce occurrences of multiple definitions for a single term, Committee F04 approved and has now initiated a terminology consolidation and harmonization effort [See Revision of Bylaws Section 6.4, F04 (09-03), Item 1 and WK25756, F04 (09-05), Item 14]. The new provision encourages both the identification of multiple definitions and the generation of proposals for their resolution. In an effort to follow-through with this process, IMPLANT and MEDICAL IMPLANT are now being proposed as a candidate for definition harmonization. This particular work and ballot item is in specific regard to the modification of the existing definition of IMPLANT - solely within the F2664 document.
