1. Scope
1. Rationale The determination and control of Al and Si in heavy fuel oil (HFO) is required to meet certain maritime engine manufacturer fuel specifications. Since bunker fuel specification limits are typically much higher for the sum of the Al and Si than the engine fuel specification, on-board purification makes up the difference. These processes need near real-time monitoring. Prompt analysis of fuel transfer activities (bunkering) is also valuable. The proposed standard test method is based upon an apparatus that is an integrated analytical component of an established and globally licensed marine fuel purification and lubrication system. 2. Task Group Goals Include: Complete remaining ruggedness study work Promptly move toward initiating an ILS Finalize a proposed STM, Research Report and Ballot in SC.03 in 2011
