ASTM WK30272

New Test Method for Determining Porosity and Interconnectivity using Micro-Computed Tomography (CT) in Poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) Bone Cement

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: F04.15 | Committee F04 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

This test method provides details of the micro-CT parameters to scan, reconstruct, and analyze the porous PMMA bone cement to determine the porosity and interconnectivity of the porous bone cement in a non-destructive way.

This standard will allow for standardization of the method used for determining the pore-related properties of PMMA bone cement based materials. Further, this standard will define acceptable procedures that will facilitate the translation of experimental materials to the clinic.

PMMA bone cement; calibration standard; porosity; interconnectivity; micro-CT
