Work Item: ASTM WK30150 - New Specification for Spray-Applied Open Cellular Polyurethane Thermal Insulation

Developed by Subcommittee: C16.22 | Committee C16 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

1.1 This specification covers the types and physical properties of open cellular spray applied polyurethane foam intended for use as thermal insulation. Spray-applied open cellular polyurethane thermal insulation (ocSPF) is herein after identified as spray applied thermal insulation or thermal insulation or simply foam. ocSPF is defined for this document as spray polyurethane foam (SPF) with a closed content less than 15%. The operating temperatures of the surfaces to which the insulation is applied shall not be lower than 22F (30C) or greater than +225F (+107C). For specific applications, the actual temperature limits shall be as agreed upon between the manufacturer and the purchaser. 1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are for information only and not considered standard. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. The standard will provide a consensus document that specifies the material property requirements and related testing for this type of spray polyurethane foam (SPF). The document would be intended for use by design professionals and specifiers and ultimately would be referenced by code bodies, evaluation services as well as other standards for performance of buildings.
