1. Scope
This proposed standard will outline the types of laboratory evaluations, test methods to employ, and subsequent report format in order to produce a comprehensive and standardized dirt track soil (cushion material) laboratory evaluation.
A variety of laboratories and consultants are utilized in the horse race track industry to test and evaluate soil materials for dirt track racing surfaces. Some of these laboratories are engineer-based laboratories while others are agricultural/horticultural-based laboratories. As such, these various laboratories often utilize different test methods and reporting formats in evaluting dirt track samples. The industry lacks a clear and concise protocol and standard for evaluating these materials. This proposed standard will outline the types of laboratory evaluations and test methods to employ in order to produce a comprehensive and standardized dirt track soil (cushion material) report.
