1. Scope
This practice includes suggested methods for measuring the bulk density and mass per unit area of dusts. The methods can be used for evaluating dust samples in a laboratory setting or for evaluating dust accumulations in industrial facilities.
NFPA standards provide thresholds of the allowable thickness or mass of dust that can be allowed to accumulate in a facility. This methodology will provide data needed to convert between mass loadings and thicknesses of dust.
