    1. Rationale

    Method E 2371 is submitted for balloting following a long effort to convert the method into Performance-Based Test Methodology as called for in our Long Range Plan. To make the method more useful to the metals industry, six additional elements were added to the scope. This, of course, required a new ILS, in which nine laboratories participated. The services of the ASTM ILS Program staff were used to process the new test data and prepare the necessary statistical tables. The major revisions to the Test Method was balloted and approved by E01.06. Now that the statistical data has been added, we can proceed with the concurrent ballot in order to prevent withdrawal of this very important document.
