1. Rationale
Test Method D3606, in its original version, did not provide in many cases adequate resolution of benzene and ethanol when ethanol was present in the samples. Subsequently ASTM created an Appendix X1.4 Modification which contained information on GC column selection to help improve the benzene resolution. In the current approved version of D3606-07 there is only one recommendation on how to improve such resolution. In this current ballot we are adding a second alternative recommendation while still retaining the original recommendation.
