1. Rationale
In December 2006 ASTM Committee meetings a request was made by Industry members to include a higher octane unleaded aviation gasoline Grade of 87 Motor Octane Number (MON, ASTM D2700) minimum (UL87) in ASTM D6227. The premise was to broaden the applicability of the specification to cover engines designed to operate on mid/high octane unleaded automotive gasoline. Following a Task Force program to verify the position, appropriate changes to the ASTM D6227 specification were proposed at the December 2009 ASTM Committee meeting. This Ballot seeks approval of those proposals.
