1. Rationale
ASTM D7547 was originally proposed to Subcommittee J.02 on Aviation Gasoline in June 2008 as a stand alone specification for unleaded gasoline, at the behest of U.S. Department of Defense in order to enhance specific military acquisition and usage needs. In order to allow the passage of the specification by ballot through the subcommittee and D02 full committee, several changes and additions to the original content were agreed, detailed within this ballot, as being necessary in order to ensure its applicability as an unleaded fuel and to differentiate it from ASTM D910 for Leaded AVGAS. Additionally, a research report was balloted in the fall semester of 2009. The research report received one negative vote which was found non-persuasive by the subcommittee. These engines are used specifically in several Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) used by the military, which have documented operational problems connected to leaded gasolines
