The criteria provided shall be considered as part of a risk assessment process during the development of the end-product specification to determine the appropriate option for conformity assessment. 1.3 This practice is intended to be used as a consistent framework to assist standards writers when adding a product certification process to a standard specification. This practice is not intended to recommend the addition of a product certification process to any specific standard. 1.4 This practice provides options for a product certification process that includes supplier declaration of conformity and certification by a third party, but is not intended to recommend any specific third party to provide certification. 1.5 This practice is not intended to supersede any federal, state, or local laws or requirements for product certification or evaluation. 1.6 This practice does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this practice to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
ASTM Committee F23 has identified the need for a product certification process to be included in some of its standards. This proposed practice will provide a template for a product certification process designed to assist other F23 subcommittees that decide to add a product certification process to selected standards.
