1.1 This test method covers the determination of the elastic limits of a test specimen. 1.1.1 This test method is used to determine the stretch and growth properties of a fabric. 1.2 The values listed in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as the standard. Within the text, the inch-pound units are shown in parentheses. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with specification. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
Available methods pull samples using a fixed load to find out elongation. This test method pulls to a specified elongation and evaluates the load at that point and other points. It will be useful for those that are designing and making apparel by evaluating how tight or compressive a material may feel. It also will determine when a material is stretched too far and will experience permanent deformation.
