Work Item: ASTM WK27550 - New Specification for Performance-Graded Asphalt Binder Graded By Nonrecoverable Creep Compliance (Jnr)

Developed by Subcommittee: D04.40 | Committee D04 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

1.1 This specification covers asphalt binders graded by performance using nonrecoverable creep compliance (Jnr) as determined by the multiple stress creep and recovery (MSCR) test. Grading designations are related to the average seven-day maximum pavement design temperature, minimum pavement design temperature, and design traffic loading. S, H, V, or E grades shall be specified for standard, high, very high, or extremely high traffic loading, respectively. NOTE 1-For asphalt binders graded by performance without nonrecoverable creep compliance limits, see Specification D6373. For asphalt binders graded by penetration at 25C, see Specification D946. For asphalt binders graded by viscosity at 60C, see Specification D3381. 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. The current ASTM performance-graded asphalt specification does not incorporate traffic loading into the grading. Many government agencies would like to have a specification to reference that does consider traffic loading.
