1. Rationale
The last sentence in Section 6.1 is addressed in Section 6 of ASTM C 172, therefore its inclusion in this standard is redundant. The sentence prior to the proposed deletion indicates that the wet sieving procedure is described in C 172. Section 6.2 is added to limit the material used for the volumetric air test to previously unused material. The consolidation process may adversely affect the air content of a concrete mixture. Thus, the reuse of material following a slump test, density test, or air content test by the pressure or volumetric method will not be permitted.
