(What is a Work Item? / How to Input to a Work Item)

Work Item: ASTM WK26721 - New Specification for Metal Injection Molded Titanium-6Aluminum-4Vanadium Net or Near Net Parts for Surgical Implant Applications.

Developed by Subcommittee: F04.12 | Committee F04 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

This specification covers the chemical, mechanical, and metallurgical requirements for metal injection molded (MIM) titanium-6aluminum-4vanadium net or near net parts to be used in the manufacture of surgical implants. Values in either inch-pound or SI are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore each system shall be used independent of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the specification. Currently, there is no such standard. We manufacture many parts with this process that are being implanted. The standard will be used by MIM manufacturing companies as well as medical device companies. It is meant to be complimentary to the ASTM F136 or ASTM F 1472

Keywords

15.1 metals (for surgical implants); orthopedic medical devices; titanium alloys; titanium alloy parts (for surgical implants); metal injection molding (MIM)

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
