1. Rationale
This work item includes a series of revisions addressing comments received on previous ballots. In addition, the order of the units is being reversed to conform to C09 policy. It is proposed to delete the reference to the 85 % value that is typically used incorrectly to convert core strengths to equivalent cylinder strengths. Several revisions address procedures when cores are taken for reasons other than determination of strength. It is proposed to permit the use of unbonded caps in accordance with Practice C1231/1231M. The requirements for minimum core diameter are clarified and it is proposed to make it mandatory to weigh cores before capping and testing. It is proposed to permit testing cores with embedded reinforcement when directed by the specifier of tests and when the core will tested in indirect tension provided the steel does not lie in the plane of splitting.
