Work Item: ASTM WK26351 - New Practice for Determination of the Slope in the Linear Region of a Test Record

Developed by Subcommittee: E08.03 | Committee E08 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

This practice applies to any test record that has a region where the dependent and independent variables are approximately proportional. There should be only one proportional region, or if there is more than one, the region where the slope is desired should be extracted. There are many ASTM standards where analysis of data requires that a slope be determined in a linear region. At this time there is no standard method for evaluating the test record, determining the region to be fit and the quality of the resulting fit. This practice could be referenced by many mechanical testing standards.
