Work Item: ASTM WK26262 - New Specification for Standard for Profilograph Simulation for Airfield Pavements

Developed by Subcommittee: E17.33 | Committee E17 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

Validate current available computer simulation programs for the California type profilograph (Comparisons between measurements and simulations by profilograph profiles and Profile Index) [Done on concrete pavement. Needs to be extended to Asphalt pavement] Make comparisons between current available simulation programs [Done on ProFAA and ProVAL]. If they are different, find the differences and find what caused them Provide a guideline for using bump template such as bump height and bump width Find feasible minimum and maximum sample spacing requirements for the simulation by considering recording wheel contact area Make comparisons between different PI computation methods (Profilograph (by equipment software), hand (by experts&beginners), and computer program). Find the recording wheel radius sensitivity for the computer simulation Find operation speed sensitivity. If the profiles and PI changes with different operation speed. Set an appropriate speed rage for the measurements Make a decision to clarify profiler type(s) (i.e. inertial profiler) for the simulation
