1. Rationale
Rationale ASTM D235 specification Mineral Spirits (or Stoddard Solvent) is no longer readily available. It was agreed at a D02.G0.04 subcommittee meeting some time (2, maybe 3 years ago) that the requirement for the cleaning solvent should be relaxed to a more general description (e.g. non film-forming, gum-free hydrocarbon solvent or Mineral Spirits, Reagant Grade. However, to date, no revisions have been made to the standard.
