1. Scope
This standard defines the Exterior Enclosure Commissioning (EECx) process by establishing a baseline level of professional qualification, technical assessment, training, testing, and documentation necessary to independently verify exterior enclosure design, integration, durability, and performance in new construction.
The increasing demand, both in the public and private sector, for Exterior Enclosure Commissioning (EECx) services, together with the confusion that currently exists in the marketplace regarding the scope and proper delivery of these services, have combined to create a unique and timely opportunity for ASTM to lend clarity and purpose to this discussion. This is particularly true when one considers the growing legislative and financial influence of USGBC LEED on the real estate design, development, and construction process. The principal goal of ASTM Task Group E06.55.09 will be to facilitate the development of a Standard Practice for Exterior Enclosure Commissioning that reflects the technical depth embodied in NIBS Guideline 3 , while also translating that information into a concise, authoritative, and technically sound document that clearly defines the EECx process and firmly establishes the minimum level of professional service required to qualify as EECx under this standard.
